The competition is scheduled to be held at the Plaza of Nations in
Vancouver, Canada on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14, 1998. The
U.B.C. Gala Ball is one of Canada's premier amateur dancesport competitions.
The 1998 Gala Ball is one of only three IDSF-granted competitions scheduled
in North America during that year.
Based in Switzerland, the IDSF is the world governing body for amateur
dancesport. In September, 1997 the IDSF was admitted to full voting
membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It has applied for
acceptance into the Medal Program of the Olympic Games. Further information

The Canadian Amateur Dancesport Association (CADA) is one of IDSF's
"National Sport Federation" nation-members.
The U.B.C. Dance Club is a student-based club founded at the University of
British Columbia in 1949, and has 1,200 members. For decades its annual
Gala Ball has included the British Columbia Open Amateur Dancesport
Championships.
